History never repeats itself, but the Kaleidoscopic combinations of the pictured present often seem to be constructed out of the broken fragments of antique legends.— Mark Twain

Then & Now: Boulder/Hoover Dam
HISTORIC ENGINEERING FEAT STANDS STRONG FOR NEARLY 80 YEARS.

BY ERIC CACHINERO

We love historic places in Nevada, and we really love comparing them to what they looked like decades—sometimes even more than a century—ago. It’s very humbling discovering a place that held so much history may be just outside your back door.

In May 1936, Hoover Dam (known as Boulder Dam until 1947) made its debut on the cover of Nevada Highways and Parks (now Nevada Magazine). Nearly 80 years since its dedication in September 1935, the dam still stands strong and continues to draw visitors from around the globe to experience its majesty. Keep an eye out for a story on this historic dam in the September/October 2015 issue of Nevada Magazine.
