Dear Friends,
Summer in Nevada is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. There are many exciting places across the state to visit, and the Lake Tahoe area has long been one of my favorites. The beautiful and breathtaking world-famous lake and its surrounds have something for the whole family, whether you’re looking for fun in the sun, a place to kick back and relax, or something in between.
The marinas that dot the shoreline offer many ways to get out on the water, including parasailing, jet skiing, and sport fishing. Of course, relaxing on the beach and enjoying the sun, sand, and waves are enjoyable activities as well. Lake Tahoe has marvelous beaches—including Nevada Beach, Round Hill Pines, and Zephyr Cove Resort on its southeast shore—that are perfect family spots where you can bring your own picnic or use one of the public barbecues. Farther north, you can attend the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival (July 13-August 26) after spending the day at the beach at Sand Harbor.
If being on the water sounds like fun, you can catch a ride on the historic M.S. Dixie II paddle wheeler, one of the best cruises on Lake Tahoe. You can enjoy brunch, dinner, and dancing as you navigate Lake Tahoe and circle Emerald Bay, or be your own captain and take a kayak or canoe out and explore the many coves closer to shore.
“Land lubbers” will enjoy the many hiking and biking trails that surround the lake. Backpacking on the Tahoe Rim Trail, camping at Nevada Beach, exploring the tunnels at Thunderbird Lodge, or taking a guided horseback trail ride are just some of the adventures that await. You’ll enjoy marvelous views of Lake Tahoe while exploring the majestic Sierra Nevada.
Finally, be sure to take a stroll down to the casino corridor in Stateline. There are activities here to keep you entertained all day, including outdoor concerts that feature some of the hottest tickets in town. End your day at one of casino row’s many top-rated restaurants that offer some of the best views of the lake.
These are just a few of the reasons my family treasures Lake Tahoe. I encourage all of you to discover Nevada and find your favorite spot.
