reno district a happening place

By BETHANY DRYSDALE

California Avenue in downtown Reno used to be just another office-lined street with only a few funky lunch spots to rescue its residents from cubicle overkill. But as more trendy shops and happy-hour watering holes have moved in, it’s becoming a happening ’burb.

And it’s the place to be for holiday shopping come December 13 from 5 to 9 p.m. during the fourth annual CalAve Holiday Stroll. Stores stay open late, carolers sing with holiday cheer, bars serve hot buttered rum and peppermint patties, and shoppers in warm coats and mittens search for the perfect gifts for their loved ones.

Be sure to check out the new additions to the shopping district: Babboo children’s clothing, Discology music center and LIV Home Furnishings.

There’s even a free horse-and-buggy ride.
