With just one month until the Patty Sheehan & Friends tournament, June 3- 6, 2011 at Hidden Valley Country Club, 26 players have been confirmed for the inaugural event. As part of The Legends Tour the event draws “legends” of women’s golf to Reno, including Pat Bradley, Amy Alcott, Betsy King and of course, World Golf and LPGA Hall of Famer Patty Sheehan. A complete list of confirmed players is below.
Some great stories are emerging as the tournament nears. Interviews and video opportunity are available.
Here’s a look at what’s developing:
• Hidden Valley Country Club has added a new lake and therefore has changed the course. This change impacts even long-time member Patty Sheehan.
• Hidden Valley is already working to prepare the course for play by these top LPGA golf professionals.
• The tournament already had to shut down volunteer requests after filling the 190 volunteer positions. There’s opportunity to meet a few before the tournament.
• The on-site experience is designed for families. In partnership with several of Reno-Tahoe’s larger special events, attendees will be able to check out an airplane (Reno Air Races), take a hot air balloon ride (Great Reno Balloon Races) and experience many other regional events.
• The family-style atmosphere runs through the tournament, and Patty Sheehan’s kids will be helping out at the event. This is the first time her kids will be involved and it will be the first time they’ve seen her play. They were only 2 and 3 years old when Patty stopped competing. Additionally, Patty’s daughter has taken up the sport and is left handed so learns by standing across from Patty at the tee and mimicking her movements. A great visual.
• The family story. Patty’s dad was a 1956 Olympian. Patty’s brothers will all be playing in the tournament. Her mom Leslie at 87 serves as the official course mom.
• There are still spots available for the clinic with the pros. Cost is $500. Both pro-am days are sold out.
Tickets for Patty Sheehan & Friends are $10 per day and are now available at www.pattysheehanandfriends.org. Admission for ages 17 and under and military personnel is FREE. Tournament proceeds benefit the newly-formed Patty Sheehan Foundation designed to support local charities and the Reno community. Hidden Valley Country Club is a 7,300 yard, 18-hole course designed by Mike Stark and Dick Bailey.
