Trails and Vistas’ eighth annual art hike will take place at Spooner Lake on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18, 2011. “Reflections & Rhythms” embodies the creative process and captures the sights, sounds and experience of the transformative 2011 art hike.

“Reflections express the physical reflections of the sky to the lake and, vice versa, the sun reflecting on the lake, the reflections of the trees, birds, animals, plants and grasses on the lake, and the mental, emotional and spiritual reflections we all experience while attending Trails and Vistas,” explains Barb Cohen who won the Trails and Vistas theme contest on April 20, 2011 and has attended all but one of Trails and Vistas’ art hikes.

After attending four Trails and Vistas’ art hikes, Jackson Stoever, a student at Custom Learning Academy, suggested having a contest to engage community members in setting the tone for the 2011 hike. Nancy Tieken Lopez, Trails and Vistas’ Founder embraced his idea and encouraged community members to let their creative juices flow. More than a dozen entries were received, and Cohen’s vision of “reflections” most resonated with the Trails and Vistas team. Cohen, a Tahoe Vista resident for thirty-seven years, won two complimentary tickets to the hike.

Audience members will walk along a gentle two and a half mile long trail in groups of up to thirty people during “Reflections & Rhythms.” Pausing at live music and dance performances, sculptures, poetry readings and innovative artistic expressions along the guided hike, participants experience art in a completely new way in the grandeur of the Lake Tahoe region.

“Trails and Vistas is a magical and transformative experience for participants and artists,” said Lopez. “I invite all ages from elementary school students to seniors to reflect on how their actions impact our majestic surroundings, to experience the beats of Taiko drumming and connect to the natural world during this year’s hike.”
